CERTIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY To be eligible students must:
SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS FOR STATE AID All students must meet the conditions of Academic Progress and Program Pursuit to continue receiving state financial assistance.
ACADEMIC PROGRESS
The following Academic Progress Charts state the number of accrued credits and
the minimum grade-point average students must meet to remain eligible for future
payments. Academic performance expectations are quite low at the beginning,
allowing for a time of adjustment to college work, but after several semesters,
the expectations approach the overall minimum of 2.0 GPA for an undergraduate
degree and 3.0 GPA for a graduate degree.

In addition to meeting the criteria outlined on the Academic Progress Chart, state regulations require both undergraduate and graduate students who receive New York State awards to complete a minimum number of credits towards the degree each semester as follows:
*Courses graded "I" must be completed within one semester
to have the credits counted (undergraduates ONLY). Courses graded "I" are not
acceptable for graduate students.
Only courses that count toward a student's degree can be used for meeting the
program-pursuit requirement. If the student does not complete the minimum number
of credits in a given semester, the student is ineligible for New York State
financial aid in the following term or until additional credits are completed
to reach the minimum level.
PART-TIME STUDY
Students awarded Aid to Part-Time Students, or Vietnam Veterans awards are subject
to the satisfactory-academic-progress and program-pursuit requirements on a
pro-rated basis.
REGAINING ELIGIBILITY
Students may regain eligibility for state financial aid by making up the deficiencies
without state support, applying for and being granted a waiver, or being readmitted
to the institution after an absence of at least one calendar year.
WAIVERS
Students who fall below the minimum criteria stated under Academic Progress
or Program Pursuit may be eligible to receive one waiver during their
undergraduate career and one waiver during their graduate career. The
waiver is intended to accomodate only extraordinary circumstances - that is,
circumstances beyond the student's control and not merely the result
of poor judgement or academic irresponsibility. Documentation of these circumstances
by a third party will be required as part of the waiver review process. If granted,
the waiver becomes part of the student's financial aid record and the student
is expected to make minimum progress thereafter. Please direct questions regarding
these policies to the Student Accounts Office, Student Services Wing, suite
117, (607) 777-2702.
